Before construction began on our Rowlett, TX store, United Access partnered with accessibility consultant, speaker, and advocate Ryan Hudson-Peralta as an advisor to design a truly inclusive store interior. With over three decades of experience in championing accessibility and inclusion, Ryan's expertise was instrumental in guiding the project. As the founder of Look Mom No Hands and Equal Accessibility LLC, Hudson-Peralta brought a wealth of knowledge and a unique perspective that significantly contributed to our mission.

The expansion of our East Dallas store marks the next significant step in our ongoing journey towards achieving the Gold Standard of Accessibility. We are proud to continue our efforts to go beyond Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines, ensuring that every individual can navigate our store comfortably and independently.
Elevating Accessibility
In addition to collaborating with Hudson-Peralta, United Access conducted surveys to gather customer feedback on what most needed improvement. Two key areas for improvement emerged: the need for an indoor showroom and an upgraded waiting area.
When visiting our newly remodeled Rowlett location, guests will now notice a range of features to significantly improve the experience within the store.
New Interior Showroom: Visitors are now able to view wheelchair accessible vehicles indoors at our Rowlett, Texas store. Shoppers can learn about mobility offerings with personalized demonstrations and hands-on tryout, helping to illustrate the many ways vehicles can be customized to meet unique needs. This new setup provides a more comfortable, climate-controlled viewing experience regardless of the Texas weather.
Semi-Enclosed Family Room: The addition of an enclosed family room provides customers with a quieter and more comfortable space to wait while their vehicle is being serviced. The chairs and furniture in this room have been carefully selected for their stability and ease of access, accommodating both wheelchair transfers and ambulatory visitors. This design ensures that all customers, regardless of their mobility needs, can relax and feel at ease during their visit.
ADA-Compliant Restroom: Our newly remodeled ADA restroom has been upgraded to be more spacious and include touchless amenities, including sinks, toilets, soap dispensers, and paper towel dispensers. Every detail, from the placement and style of the fixtures to the direction of the door swing, has been thoughtfully considered to help customers with mobility and dexterity limitations use the restroom facilities more independently and comfortably.
Hand Control & Digital Displays: A hand control display and a digital display offers customers multiple ways to view and test our products, further enhancing their experience in our store. United Access offers a huge variety of adaptive equipment beyond wheelchair accessible vehicles, and customers will be better able to explore the various options available to them and make informed decisions about the products that best meet their needs.
By incorporating these innovative features, we are taking significant strides towards creating a more inclusive and accessible environment for all our customers where they can shop comfortably and confidently. Our Rowlett store is now better equipped to serve the diverse needs of our community, ensuring that everyone feels welcome and valued when they visit us. We will continue our journey towards the Gold Standard of Accessibility with additional upgrades in the coming months.
